UK Art Museum Presents Work by Noted Women Artists
The Official Elvis Prayer Rug by Joni Mabe.
LEXINGTON, KY.- This week the University of Kentucky Art Museum opens an exhibition of prints by prominent female artists called “Prints By Women: Selected Works from the Georgia Museum of Art.” The exhibition includes pieces that represent various artistic movements from Impressionist artists like Mary Cassatt to 20th century artists like Audrey Flack and Joni Mabe. ";Prints by Women: Selected Works from the Georgia Museum of Art” runs through Aug. 5.

“Prints by Women” reflects the achievements of women artists and their changing roles throughout the 20th century. The show presents a sampling of the various artistic movements, as well as printmaking techniques and social commentary. Images range from domestic scenes of Impressionist era artists like Cassatt and Berthe Morisot to the popular late 20th-century lithograph, “The Official Elvis Prayer Rug” by Mabe.

This exhibition was organized by the Georgia Museum of Art, and is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Local sponsors of the show making the exhibition possible are Gail Bennett, Anne Bolton, Becky Faulconer, Christine Huskisson, Lexington Directions, The Paperweight, Tate.Hill.Jacobs: Architects and WUKY.

“Prints by Women" is a ticketed event; prices for the exhibition are $5 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens, and $4 for tour groups by reservation. Members of the UK Art Museum and UK faculty, retired faculty, staff, and students can view the exhibition for free. All individuals are welcome to visit the exhibition on Friday evenings for free from 5 to 8 p.m.

The UK Art Museum is open noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and noon to 8 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, call (859) 257-5716.
