CINCINNATI, OH.- The Taft Museum of Art will be reducing the hours it is open to the public in response to the current economic downturn that is affecting businesses and non-profit organizations around the world.

The Museum will be closed Tuesdays, beginning April 27. During the summer, the museum will be open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with admission to all free on Wednesdays. The Museum Café will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“The reduced visiting hours for the public are a cost-savings measure. Guests to the museum, café, and shop will continue to enjoy free amenities such as parking, docent tours, and music programs, as well as other affordable, quality programs,” said Paul Chellgren, chairman of the Taft’s board of directors. “The adjustment in hours and the decision to not have a touring exhibition this summer were made to ensure the museum’s future fiscal health and long-term success, while still fulfilling the mission to welcome people of every background to experience world-renowned art collections in a historic house.”

The absence of a touring exhibition this summer in the Fifth Third gallery creates an opportunity for programs and events that focus on the Taft’s world class art collection.

“The Taft is relatively fortunate,” Chellgren says. “We enjoy a solid base of support, and the community recognizes the importance and significance of this cultural treasure. While we are not immune to the economic downturn, the Taft will get through this challenging period thanks to its support and to the dedicated museum leadership, staff, and volunteers.”
