Call For Artists: Artwork Needed For Raleigh's City Plaza Exhibition

RALEIGH, NC. Mary Poole, executive director of Artspace , has announced that the organization is accepting work from North Carolina artists for a temporary art exhibition to be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Raleigh’s new City Plaza. The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission. The deadline for artists to apply is Friday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. All artists 18 years of age and older, who have resided in North Carolina for at least one year, are eligible to submit work. Artists should have experience with public works of art, and the work must be available for the entire exhibition period of 12 months. Selected artists will be paid a stipend of $2,000.

Located on the 500 block of Fayetteville Street, City Plaza will open on Oct. 24 in conjunction with the Raleigh Wide Open festival. The plaza will host concerts, markets, city celebrations and many other events throughout the year.

“We are pleased to offer artists an opportunity to display their work on the new City Plaza sculpture pedestals,” said Poole. “This is an exciting way for Artspace to be a part of the Raleigh Wide Open festival and the opening of City Plaza.”

Artspace is a nonprofit visual arts center dedicated to providing arts education and community outreach programs, creating an environment of more than 100 professional artists and presenting nationally acclaimed exhibitions. Located in downtown Raleigh in the historic Sanders Ford building, Artspace has been providing the community with the opportunity to interact with working artists and to participate in hands-on arts education since 1986.
