NEW YORK, NY.- Parsons The New School for Design recently launched the website The Copyright Corner. Developed by Michelle Bogre, an associate professor in the photography program of the School of Art, Media and Technology at Parsons, it is intended as a place for debate and dialogue about copyright and other important intellectual property issues. It is the only website of its kind geared specifically for artists and designers, both students and professionals.

Funded through a grant from The Media Institute, which was interested in partnering with a university to create educational materials on copyright law, the site builds upon the body of scholarship that Bogre has generated over the past decade through the courses she teaches on copyright at Parsons.

“In addition to my teaching, I am frequently asked to lecture and speak on panels about the issues of copyright and intellectual property," said Bogre, who received her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University. "When I realized the pressing need for a website on this topic written specifically for a lay audience of artists and designers, I approached Parsons and the Media Institute for support in launching this site.”

The site features news and features, as well as basic definitions of the topic, how to register for a copyright, fair use of copyrighted properties, articles on intellectual property issues from The Media Institute, and Q&A forums that encourage dialogue and debate.
