Mark S. Siegel Elected to Succeed Louise Bryson as Chair of Getty Board

LOS ANGELES, CA.- The J. Paul Getty Trust announced today that Mark S. Siegel has been elected to serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees effective July 1, 2010. He will succeed Louise Bryson who has served as the Board’s Chair since 2006.

Siegel joined the Board in November 2005, and currently serves as Chair of the Investment Committee and is a member of both the Governance and Compensation committees. He also is a member of the Getty Museum’s Conservation and Villa councils.

Beyond his role with the Getty, Siegel is a collector of contemporary and 19th century paintings and manuscripts, and he is involved in a broad range of community activities. He is in his final year as Chair of the Board of Directors of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and, in the past, has served as a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts (PACA), and as a Trustee of The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).

“As an art-lover, I can think of no better opportunity than to work with the Getty’s talented leadership as the Getty reaches new heights in doing what only the Getty can do. We are fortunate to have in our community one of the finest arts institutions in the world, which does so much in so many areas,” said Siegel. “I will do my utmost to help the Getty continue to lead and serve its many communities. I salute Louise for her dedicated and strong leadership during these past four years.”

“With his deep commitment to the arts and experience in board leadership, Mark will work effectively with our excellent Trustees, our President Jim Wood, and the entire talented Getty team,” said Louise Bryson. “I am confident he will be an outstanding Board Chair.”

Siegel is the Founder and President of ReMY Investors and Consultants, Inc., and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Patterson-UTI Energy, Inc., an energy services company. Prior to that, Siegel was Executive Vice President at Shamrock Holdings, Inc, and also practiced law for 12 years in the entertainment and media industries. A native of Los Angeles, Siegel earned an A.B. in philosophy from Colgate University and a J.D. (Order of the Coif) from the University of California, Berkeley.
