David Hollier, Autumn Harvest, 2011.
SLATE, N.Y.- American Art Marketing is excited to announce the second annual Contemporary Art Fair NYC in conjunction with the American Craft Show at the Jacob Javits Center, Hall 1A, NYC this November 18, 19 and 20, 2011. This year there will be over 90 independent international artists exhibiting from Canada, Spain, and across the United States along with 100 artisans in the American Craft Show section. The art works presented reflects the contemporary art world with a dramatic and diverse range of styles and methods of production. There will be a full schedule of talks, performances, demonstrations and other events.

Richard Rothbard, Director of American Art Marketing said “Overall, last year’s launch of the first Contemporary Art Fair and the American Craft Show was exceptional. This year we are on target to double, probably more than that, all of last year’s numbers.” Last year there were over 5,000 visitors and numerous sales with many totaling over five figures.

CAFNYC Associate Producer, Robert Curcio initiated a Selection Committee of Anna Ortt, director of Mike Weiss Gallery, NYC; Claire Oliver, owner/director of Claire Oliver Gallery, NYC and Ronald Sosinski, owner/director of The Proposition, NYC. Before CAFNYC is open to the public on Friday, November 18 the Selection Committee will review the exhibitors and select nine (9) artists as the committee’s Best of Fair. Should one artist be selected by all of the Committee, that artist will receive a free booth in next year’s CAFNYC.

A few programming highlights include: The Great Nude will present a group exhibit and will have live sketch sessions with models happening throughout the fair. Seasoned artists to the doodler are invited to grab pads and pencils to sketch and receive impromptu advice from exhibiting artists. World-renowned contemporary dance company Jennifer Muller/The Works performs a dance and visual arts collaboration. Exhibiting artist George Sakal presents a talk entitled - Duchampian Postmodern Art Theory is False. To assist artists reach their career goals, Natasha Wescoat will present Creation and On-line Curation.

Two Fairs in One
Satellite fairs of designers and artists have been popping up around main art fairs around the globe; consider Design Miami and the PooL Art Fair during Art Basel Miami Beach. The same situation has existed between art and craft / artist and artisan for years. Putting aside haggard distinctions from the fine art and craft worlds, the American Craft Show and the Contemporary Art Fair provide a unique venue for independent artists and artisans to exhibit side-by-side while providing a refreshing vantage point for collectors and enthusiasts.
