BERLIN (AP).- A major retrospective of leading German artist Gerhard Richter's work is opening in Berlin, days after his 80th birthday.

The exhibition of some 130 paintings and five sculptures spanning five decades, titled "Gerhard Richter: Panorama," opens to the public at the Neue Nationalgalerie on Sunday and runs through May 13.

Richter described the glass-fronted, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe-designed building as a "wonderful" backdrop for the show, which ranges from his blurry photopaintings to more abstract works.

Put together in collaboration with London's Tate Modern and the Pompidou Center in Paris, the exhibition has already been seen in London.

Richter said at the show's presentation Friday that he wouldn't change any of the works in retrospect, news agency dapd reported.

The artist turned 80 on Feb. 9.
