NEW YORK, NY.- Two of the Guggenheim’s recent digital media projects have been recognized by the Webby Awards, a global award honoring excellence on the Internet. The BMW Guggenheim Lab site was nominated for a Webby in the Cultural Institutions category, while the app for the exhibition Maurizio Cattelan: All was named a Webby honoree.

The public will choose the recipient of the People's Choice Award in the Cultural Institutions category. We invite you to explore the BMW Guggenheim Lab online and cast your vote through April 26.

Extending the global reach of the BMW Guggenheim Lab beyond its physical structure, the Lab’s website broadens the opportunities for audiences around the world to participate in this multidisciplinary project. Through its interactive programming, games, videos, blog, and social-media channels, the site aims to spark discussion about urban life, architecture, and sustainability.

Visitors can follow the Lab’s journey on Lab | Log, the Lab’s official blog and travel diary, with posts by BMW Guggenheim Lab curators David van der Leer and Maria Nicanor, Lab blogger Christine McLaren, and notable guest writers. The online game Urbanology lets participants build their version of a future city. Website visitors are invited to reflect on Confronting Comfort, the theme of the BMW Guggenheim Lab's first three-city cycle, by submitting their thoughts on how they would increase the comfort of urban environments. Their responses are incorporated into an interactive BMW Guggenheim Lab logo that evolves over time, reflecting the dynamic nature of the Lab itself.

A jury from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences will select a winner from the five nominees in the category, while the public votes to decide the People's Choice Award. The winners of both will be announced in a ceremony broadcast live on May 21, 2012, hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt.

The app for Maurizio Cattelan: All was named a Webby honoree, a distinction given to less than 15 percent of the 10,000 projects considered. The app offers unique access to the provocative Italian artist’s recent retrospective. Featuring dramatic views of the museum's unprecedented installation and extensive documentation of Cattelan's artworks, actions, and other projects, the app includes introductory videos by filmmaker John Waters and more than 20 video interviews with the artist's friends and collaborators. Exhibition curator Nancy Spector presents Cattelan's oeuvre, while engineers and conservators offer a behind-the-scenes look at how the innovative show was put together.
