LONDON.- Flowers Galleries and Clout Communications announced that Reverspective will open its studio doors this summer.

STUDIOSPECTIVE will be the first time internationally-renowned artist Patrick Hughes has held an event welcoming members of the public.

I am opening up my Shoreditch studio on three Saturdays this summer because I think people will enjoy seeing my illusions in their birthplace. This big space has been my workplace and home for sixteen years now, and I know how much people like getting behind the scenes and understanding more about the processes that go into the making of art. I will be here showing people round, signing books and cards, and giving a short talk with Q & A at the end of the afternoon.

The blue door at No. 72 is often remarked upon by passers-by. Behind it lies not only a studio but a multi-faceted working environment incorporating carpentry and painting workshops, gallery spaces, research areas - both written and visual, collections of odd eccentricities and illusionistic delights.

This rare opportunity to meet the renowned artist, writer and wit Patrick Hughes is aimed to provide visitors with a more intimate look into Reverspective life. The daily tour and artist’s talk on each open day will allow you to witness an array of works in every stage of production and give a sneak peek into his artistic insight and working process.

Patrick Hughes was born in 1939, his work was first exhibited in London in 1961 and has since featured in over 100 exhibitions worldwide. Much of his earlier work is filled with visual puns and aptly reflects his humour, channelling his ability as a writer and linguist. His fascination with perspective began as a young child but was fully realised with the creation of his three-dimensional paintings, the first of which was constructed in 1964. When viewed from the front they appear to be two-dimensional. When the observer moves slightly that the illusion is created and perspective is reversed to fool the eye into believing you are viewing the third dimension in movement.

Over the years a variety of visitors have taken joy in meeting Hughes at 72 Great Eastern Street. Studiospective will be the first time Hughes has opened his doors to the general public.

Patrick Hughes’ work is included in private and public collections including, Arts Council England, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, British Council, British Library, Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow, Leeds City Art Gallery, Manchester City Art Gallery and Tate.
