Detroit museum to host Navy's War of 1812 display

DETROIT (AP).- The National Museum of the United States Navy's traveling mini-exhibit on the War of 1812 is coming to Detroit next weekend. Called "War of 1812: A Nation Forged by War," the display commemorates the conflict's 200-year anniversary. It will be featured at nearly 200 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The display opens Saturday at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. "War of 1812: A Nation Forged by War" highlights the roles the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service played in getting Great Britain to the negotiating table and tells the stories of U.S. Navy crews in battles on the oceans and Great Lakes.
