HONG KONG.- Sotheby’s Hong Kong Autumn Sales 2012 will be held at Hall 3 Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 5 to 9 October 2012. The sale series will include Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, Fine Chinese Paintings, Contemporary Asian Art, 20th Century Chinese Art, Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings, Jewellery, Watches and Wines.

Selected highlights will be showcased in travelling exhibitions in Jakarta (31 August - 1 September), Shanghai (1 - 2 September), Beijing (4 - 5 September), Chengdu (7 - 8 September), Singapore (15 - 16 September), Bangkok (18 - 19 September) and Taipei (22 - 23 September), followed by a public exhibition of all of the properties on offer at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 5 to 8 October.

Kevin Ching, Chief Executive Officer of Sotheby's Asia, said, “This season, Sotheby’s promises to bring exceptional and rare properties to the Asian market from private collections around the world. Our carefully curated auction series will include exceptional objects across categories – including Chinese ceramics and works of art, traditional and contemporary Asian art, jewellery, watches and wines, among others. We are especially privileged to offer an exquisite hanging scroll painting, Double Lotus for the Yongzheng Emperor, executed during the Yongzheng period between 1723 and 1735, by the renowned Italian Jesuit Giuseppe Castiglione. A celebrated official painter to the Qing Imperial court, Castiglione’s works rarely appear on the market.

“We are also delighted to offer significant works of impeccable provenance by prominent Chinese artists across several generations – from Zhang Daqian to Sanyu and Zhang Xiaogang, among others.

“Sotheby’s is also committed to the public display of great art. We will be honoured to present selections from You Yi Tang’s private collection of Chinese paintings^, our second exhibition of works from this noted collection from Hong Kong. Entitled Testament of Friendship – The You Yi Tang Collection of Paintings by Zhang Daqian, the show will feature outstanding works by Zhang throughout his artistic career, and will highlight the artist's intimate relationships with friends and family.”

^ Sotheby’s Hong Kong was commissioned by You Yi Tang in Spring 2010 for the first time to hold exhibition of its collection - Zhao Shao’ang Paintings and Calligraphy from the Collection of You Yi Tang.
