Flint Institute of Arts Presents Romare Bearden: Narrations
FLINT, MICHIGAN.- The Flint Institute of Arts presents "Romare Bearden: Narrations," on view through April 13, 2003. Romare Bearden is regarded as one of America’s master painters and collagists. Bearden is known as an innovator, integrating many techniques to achieve his unique style of collage. His childhood memories and art historical influences are blended and transformed to create an original and exciting narrative on African-American history and the dynamic world of jazz. This exhibition, organized by the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase College, State University of New York, who describes Bearden as a master of the sensual, lively image poised in a dramatic balance between illusion and reality. Sponsored by the Ruth Mott Foundation, and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
