LONDON.- The Frieze Art Fair has now opened to the public and features 173 of the world's most exciting contemporary art galleries.

Visitors can also take part in Frieze Projects, the fair's unique programme of artist commissions, which this year features nine new works that all explore ideas of performativity. Frieze Film is being shown in a specially constructed cinema outside the fair's entrance and is free to the public.

Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize Winner
The Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize sponsored by Champagne Pommery has been awarded to Sadie Coles.

The judges agreed unanimously that Sadie Coles stand articulated a long-term commitment to and understanding of the artists represented. Sadie Coles' booth can be found at Frieze Art Fair stand C15 and features work by Sarah Lucas, Elizabeth Peyton and Ugo Rondinone.

The Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize was judged by Beatrix Ruf, Stuart Comer and Jerry Saltz.

Outset / Frieze Art Fair Fund to benefit the Tate Collection
The partnership between Outset, Frieze Art Fair and Tate, based on the generosity of Outset, enables Tate to buy important work by emerging artists at the fair for the national collection. 83 works by 54 significant international artists have been collected since 2003.

This year the acquired works were: Lorna Simpson, Five Day Forecast (1991) from Salon 94; Jimmie Durham, Dans plusieurs de ces forêts et de ces bois, il n´y avait pas seulement des villages souterrains groupés autours du terrier du chef mais il y avait encore de véritables hameaux de huttes basses cachés sous les arbres, et si nombreaux que parfois la forêt en était remplie. Souvent les fumées les trahissaient. Deux de… (1993) from kurimanzutto; Július Koller, Question Mark b. (Anti-Painting, Text-Painting) (1969), Universal Futurological Opening (1978), Conceptual (1972) from Galerie Martin Janda.

The guest curators for the fund in 2010 were: Daniel Birnbaum (Director, Städelschule, Frankfurt and soon to be Director of Moderna Museet, Stockholm) and Helen Legg (Curator, Ikon Gallery, Birmingham).

Frieze Music 2010
Frieze Music 2010 will present two specially curated nights of very different sounds, one of disco and a second of exquisite song from a singular voice.

Tomorrow night will see Hercules and Love Affair perform at Debut, SE1. New material from their second album will be debuted at the Frieze Music performance. Support for Hercules and Love Affair comes from Telepathe. Berlin-based duo Hype Williams and FACT DJs (from Fact Magazine, London) will also play.

On Saturday night Frieze Music moves to Shoreditch Church, E1 for a night of ethereal music. For this one-off candlelit concert, Baby Dee – a classically trained harpist and pianist – will be performing with The Elysian Quartet. Also at Shoreditch Church, James Blackshaw will perform solo.
