VENICE.- « Voice of Images» is the first Palazzo Grassi – François Pinault Foundation exhibition dedicated to the moving image in the François Pinault Collection.

Curated by Caroline Bourgeois, the exhibition opened its doors to the public on the occasion of the 69th Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica in Venice (Venice International Film Festival), underlining the strength of the links uniting Venice and the cinema.

Showing in the atrium and the first floor of Palazzo Grassi, the exhibition « Voice of Images» brings together around 30 works – films, videos, installations – by 25 artists, in a display which highlights the great diversity of the media, projection devices and means of appreciating space and time.

The artists presented in the exhibition include Adel Abdessemed, Peter Aerschmann, Yael Bartana, Mohamed Bourouissa, Mircea Cantor, Paul Chan, Liu Da Hong, Yang Fudong, Cao Fei, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Michel François, Abdulnasser Gharem, Johan Grimonprez, Hassan Khan, Taro Izumi, Cameron Jamie, Zoe Leonard, Bruce Nauman, Shirin Neshat, William Pope L, Anri Sala, Javier Tellez, Bill Viola and Mark Wallinger.

« Voice of Images» gives the chance to present the work For Beginners by Bruce Nauman, acquired by François Pinault in 2011, for the first time in Europe.

Alongside the exhibition, a catalogue has been published, including interviews with all of the artists shown, monthly presentations with artists from the exhibition will take place, and a programme of films will be shown in the two screening rooms on the first floor of the museum.

At the same time, the exhibition « In Praise of Doubt» continues at Punta della Dogana until 31 December 2012.

Caroline Bourgeois is the curator of numerous exhibitions, including l’Argent, Joan Jonas, Valie Export, Cao Fei, Adel Abdessemed and Loris Gréaud at the Plateau-FRAC Ile de France (Paris), where she was Curator from 2004 to 2008, as well as various shows for the François Pinault Foundation. These latter include the three Venice events The World Belongs to You (2011) and Madame Fisscher (2012) at Palazzo Grassi and In Praise of Doubt (2011/12) at Punta della Dogana respectively, as well as Passage du Temps in Lille, Un certain Etat du Monde in Moscow and Qui a peur des artistes ? in Dinard (Brittany).
