HONG KONG.- Sotheby’s Hong Kong will open the autumn season of auctions with three important wine sales, to be held on 5 and 6 October 2012. Offering a total of nearly 1,800 lots, the three sales combined are valued in excess of HK$52 million / US$6.6 million*.

Headlining the 2-day wine sale series is The Classic Cellar From A Great American Collector (343 lots; est: HK$18 - 25 million / US$2.3 - 3.2 million), which is the tenth part of the greatest single-owner wine collection in Sotheby’s history. This sale will be immediately followed by Important Wines From The Connoisseur Collection (674 lots; est: HK$14 – 20 million / US$1.8 – 2.5 million), an extraordinary Hong Kong collection with amazing diversity ranging from Bordeaux spanning 90 years to an impressive range of Burgundy, Italian and Californian wines.

The various-owner sale of Fine and Rarest Wines (772 lots; est: HK$20 – 28 million / US$2.5 – 3.5 million) rounds up Sotheby’s Autumn wine sale series on 6 October, bringing to the market fine wines hailing from all over the world. This sale includes over 550 lots of fine Bordeaux in classic vintages such as 1990, 1996, 2000 and 2005 – many of which are in significant parcel quantities. Also, great red and white Burgundy including 30 lots from Domaine de la Romanée Conti are featured, with the highest value lot of the two days being nine bottles of Romanée Conti 1990 estimated at HK$1.1 - 1.6 million / US$140,000 – 200,000. A series of top Champagnes and cult Californian wines all add to the richness of choice, catering to the diverse demand of wine lovers in Hong Kong. Of particular note is the large selection of wines from Château Cos d’Estournel with over 70 lots spanning two decades from 1990 to 2009. This legendary second Growth from St. Estephe produces age worthy Bordeaux that has always been a favourite of collectors in Europe and the US and has become increasingly popular in Asia.
