To executives, This is Danny, editor from MR magazine HK (www.mrrm.com.hk). RE.: Norton Museum of Art to Exhibit Painting by Van Gogh on Loan from National Gallery It's an very important self-portrait, van Gogh only painted 3 self-portraits at the easel 1886, 1888 and 1889 (with the tools in his hand, so to speak) on all three self-portraits he present himself as an lefthanded painter. Painted simultaneous with his other self-portrait from 1889. Both reversed...on the NG self-portrait he holding his palette in his right hand. I assume he painted with his left hand. http://www.artquotes.net/masters/vangogh/vangogh_selfportrait.htm Sincerely Yours Greenland Art Review Svend Erik Hendriksen

I am questioning the correct historical prospect of the story connected with the George Grosz drawing, Interrogation 1936-38. This is not a WWII image, but an image of the pre-war period. The torturers would not have been members of the Nazi army, but either members of the SS secret police or members of the SA, though the latter seems unlikely. Soldiers did not get involved in the atrocities against the German population considered either politically or racially "unsuited". The war did not start until September 1, 1939 at which time soldiers were still not involved in such acts. This is the SS as one gathers from the look of the uniforms. It is sad that those who write media releases about paintings are already totally ignorant of historical facts.

"...still counting..." is Mr. Mut's continued expression of hope for peace and transformation of humanity. Who is responsible for making peace a reality? He offers a chilling, yet critical, conundrum: "I am opposed to killing, I detest war, I love my country, but my government wages war... I pay taxes, and those dollars are used for warfare...I am ultimately inextricably connected to the whole process. I am killing innocent people with my money" There lies the power of this extraordinary installation: we are all connected to everything. Therefore we share in the responsibility of all things. Michael Mut delivers us into an entirely new realm of thinking about our own existence and our own individual and collective impact on the whole "Bigger" picture.

Art Works! The National Sculpture Competition at Kingsbrae Garden is in its 2nd successful year in the small historic town, St Andrews by-the-Sea. Dozens of sculptures and fountains dot the magnificent 27-acre site, with 19 in the Sculpture Garden, amidst extensive water features and innovative plantings. Tall ornamental grasses, wildflowers and leafy nooks invite one to discover the next work, by sculptors hailing from Newfoundland & Labrador to British Columbia (Canada). I would be more than happy to send photos of the Sculpture Competition & Garden, or visitors may wish to take a virtual tour: http://kingsbraegarden.com/Art/sculpturegdn.html The juxtaposition of art and nature is not new, but the showplace for these artists is constantly renewing, building a stellar collection of Canadian art. Tens of thousands have visited and been captivated by the collection, both in the Sculpture Garden and throughout the site. Sincerely, Maureen McIlwain Kingsbrae Garden St Andrews

Citizens of Turkey See Ottoman Empire Legacy in New Light Dear Sir I don't quite understand what is the purpose of this artical which has nothing to do with your web site's vision that's supposed to promote art and its surroundings. This artical has full of political views of pro-governement and its supporters. The Entire artical attacks Turkish Republic as a failure where as The writer wrongly glorifies The Ottoman Empire which was. The writer does not mention failure of the 2010 The European Culture Capital Organisation and indeed THe Governement that Istanbul was left without Opera and Balet Building for many years when they closed down Ataturk Cultural Center with a word of repairs, infact that was to open a way to demolished it.Because in their vision these arts are foreign and has no place in Turkish society. As a seasoned professional artist and writer-- a visual storyteller-- I am always amused when the press and public express amazement at an artist's ability to write or, as in the case of the recent Bob Dylan paintings, that an exceptionally talented songwriter can produce evocative paintings. If a person actively explores and creates, we are called renaissance, apparently because some mainstream societal dictate expects we will learn to do one thing well and do only that as an entire career. BUREAUCRATS MUTILATE PUBLIC SCULPTURE, ARTIST SEEKS REDRESS IN FEDERAL COURT PHILADELPHIA -When artist David Ascalon's towering Holocaust memorial, just blocks from the Pennsylvania state capitol, was dedicated in 1994, he could not have imagined that a dozen years later, his name would be grinded away from the sculpture's base. Nor could Ascalon have envisioned that his most cherished creation - one which he designed to honor the millions who perished at the hands of the Nazis - would have been mutilated through drastic modification at the whim of a bunch of Harrisburg bureaucrats. But that is precisely what happened. Ascalon, however, was unwilling to permit this violation of his moral rights to go unchecked. Through his attorney, Jason B. Schaeffer of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, he has filed suit under Congress' Visual Artists' Rights Act of 1990 (VARA) - a law enacted to protect against such destruction. One of the prints Untitled 1 (Kitchen) will be on display in the American Identities galleries on the 5th floor from August through December 2010. Darfur in Brooklyn is a documentary photography project that shadows a day in the life of a Sudanese taxi driver named Omar. The genocide continues in Darfur and photographer Damian Wampler has worked to spread the news about the senseless killing so that perhaps people will take notice and governments will take action.

What a gloriously impersonal press release (this one.. http://www.artdaily.org/index.asp?int_sec=2&int_new=39447 Outwith the gloriously sterile (seems to have taken effort to be so bland) description of such an event, surely it could have been coloured with some notion of resonance; character even. I mean, you tried hard enough with the pictures, so why not the prose?. She goes by Adeline by the way, a pretty name I'm sure you'll agree. The picture was designed to have a certain type of impact, so why such sterility in the reportage?

Hello from Studio 360, the Peabody Award winning, nationally syndicated weekly radio show about creativity, pop culture and the arts, hosted by writer Kurt Andersen. We're a co production of Public Radio International and WNYC. I'm writing to let you know about a segment on this week's show that you might be interested in! We spoke with provocative artist Vito Acconci, here's a quick description: Vito Acconci's work as an artist and architect often confuses the boundaries between public and private space. In an art piece from 1969, Acconci trailed pedestrians on the streets until they entered a private place. In 1964 Acconci saw a movie that would shape his career as an architect: John Ford movie "The Searchers," starring John Wayne. Produced by Gretta Cohn. You can hear Vito's story here: http://studio360.org/episodes/2010/07/16/segments/157125 Best, Becky Sullivan

Hi, I'm emailing as I am working on an incredible exhibition, which I thought might be of interest to you. Jessica Albarn (an established artist and illustrator, as well as the sister of Blur frontman, Damon) is launching a beautifully illustrated book called *The Boy in the Oak* and to celebrate, Liberty are hosting a private view and exhibition of her work. *The Boy in the Oak* draws on the grand tradition of fairytales, demonstrating the delicate, ethereal work of Albarn perfectly and is launching in the Liberty East Atrium gallery on the 16th June with the artwork remaining on display for the public until the 11th July. I'm afraid I don't have a physical copy to send you but you can view the complete PDF at: https://www.yousendit.com/download/YWhOM25OdENRR2RjR0E9PQ It would be great if you thought this could work as a feature, speaking to Jess, or even as an event listing. Debut London Show by Chantal Powell Traces & Testament Chantal Powell Westbourne Grove Church Artspace, Notting Hill, London 7 July -10 Aug 2010 Private View - Tuesday 6th July 7pm - 9pm Traces and Testament is the first solo exhibition of work by artist Chantal Powell. Contemporary sculptural work with overriding themes of loss and longing, the real and the imagined, childhood and mortality. The work elevates the relationship between found objects and our memories, desires and dreams. Weaving the story of these objects with imagined narratives and creating emotionally charged works that invite intimacy and personal involvement. Traces and Testament presents the viewer with connotations of beauty and vulnerability - a fragile nest encased in a glass box, girls white communion gloves, secrets in boxes bound with gold thread. Regarding your article about the upcoming partnership between the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Berg Publishers: the picture accompanying the full article shows the "screen siren" section of an exhibit. The image on the screen in the picture is of the late Lena Horne (a "siren" if there ever was one), but no mention of this is made in the caption of the picture. Also, the Charles James gown on the left appears to be a duplicate of the one on the right that belonged to Gypsy Rose Lee. This is not explained in the caption, either. I think Miss Horne's image should be recognized in the caption. Thanks. (The Rev.) Charles A. Gilmore, Jr.

A native of Las Vegas, one of the cities hit hardest by the mortgage crisis, Taylor snuck into empty houses throughout the region to make her pictures. They show the frustration and rage that homeowners take out on their repossessed houses. Kurt asks Taylor why she used the challenging medium of inlaid wood to recast quick images of vandalism. Visit us on the web at www.studio360.org to find station listings, browse our archives or just listen to the show. Be in touch! Becky Sullivan : Studio 360 : WNYC Radio

I recently opened Krowswork, a new photography and video gallery in Oakland, California, and I wanted to suggest my next show to you, which opens Saturday, for the Artdaily mailing. It is called "What If? In the Days When the Tiger Smoked," (the name derives from the Korean equivalent of "Once Upon a Time" and features video and photography by veteran artists Torsten Zenas Burns and Darrin Martin. There are great, vivid visuals - and I've just finished installing and the result is awesome. It's going to be an important show, and I would be honored to be featured on Artdaily. The link is: www.krowswork.com/whatif.html Many thanks, Jasmine Moorhead, owner and director, Krowswork

I have a Wool hand embroidied Shawl that belong to a mah-raja from India before partician and Ghandi time had given My great uncle the shawl from the Mah raja when he was visiting india. The embrodery on the shawl is such that there is no right or wrong side. you will see not knots or where the ebrodery begins or ends. It is very detailed and what history I have on it is, this type of work only exhisted in Kashmere it was done by hand by one person and would take them over a year to embrodery. He also had showed this work to a 70 year old shawl owner in pakistan in 1970 who had in his shop somewhat similar work but only one sided and not that detailed. He had informed my father that this type of work does not exhist any more but was done when he was a little boy and had seen this work than. Are you able to value this type of work? nikki.phiroz@fmr.com

Dear Mr. Villareal, I'm contacting you on behalf of RxArt, a New York-based nonprofit that works with contemporary artists to place site-specific commissions in hospitals and healthcare facilities. We most recently completed a major project with Jeff Koons at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Chicago, where the artist transformed a CT Scanner and surrounding exam room with his iconic imagery. Jeff and various media reps, collectors, and state officials will be attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception at the hospital on June 29th, and we would love for Art Daily to be a part of it all. If you could kindly advise as to how much lead time you need, we would be delighted to send over a press release and accompanying photos of the artist-designed medical machinery. Many thanks in advance for your help, and we look forward to hearing from you. With all good wishes, Nicki 212.260.8797 www.rxart.net

She received her M.F.A. from the University of Chicago and her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I was thinking of your news leter because my Sam Maloof was featured on the site in 08, I have some extremely rare photographs of Peter Beard that he shot of the infamous "Natalie Mclennan", the most high paid escort that took down the Govenor of N.Y. These annodated photos are in his home in Montauk and are rare. They have been verified both by The Time is now gallerie in NY as well as Fahey Klein in Los Angles. They will be auctioned off at Abell auctionin L.A. in May. Perhaps you would want to mention it for Phillips just did a sale on"sex" they say she had a perfect score in that world and has a major celeberty as well as influental and atheletes and wall street clientelle, 2000.00 a hour dubed the higgest paid call girl in New Yorks history and perhaps the history of this buisness.
